Paneer Tawa Masala, combining the richness and creaminess of paneer and the spiciness and tanginess of masala sauce, gives one a flavourful Indian dish. It is usually cooked on a tawa, or flat, round skillet, which leaves it with this mouthwatering smoky flavour that does not seem to fit in with any other paneer preparation. One known for vibrant colours and bold, aromatic spices, paneer tawa masala is one of the favourites in Indian restaurants and home kitchens. The paneer tawa masala recipe requires marinating paneer cubes with yoghurt, turmeric, chilli powder, and other spices. Then, it is cooked on a tawa with a hot pan till the outer part gets crispy and the inside remains soft, with a melting-in-the-mouth texture. Masala sauce is prepared by saut ing onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, and green chillies, followed by simmering them with numerous ground spices such as cumin, coriander, and cumin powder. This spicy-luscious gravy is then mixed with the paneer cubed. Combining all these flavours made the dish spicy, tangy, and utterly delicious. Paneer tawa masala could be the main dish with roti rice or naan, or it could also be used as a side dish with other specialities of India. It's a must-try for those who love rich Indian flavours. The paneer tawa masala recipe allows extreme customisation and can be adjusted according to one's preferred spice level or taste preferences.

Ingredients

  • 200 gms paneer
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tomato
  • 1/2 cup capsicum
  • 2 tbsp coriander
  • Salt

Instructions

  • Paneer Tawa Masala is very flavorful and is quick to make, sure to become a favorite in your kitchen.
  • Start with cubing 200 grams of paneer.
  • Let's now prepare the masala. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a tawa or a flat griddle on a medium flame.
  • Once the oil is ready, add 1 finely chopped onion to the tawa and saut it until it turns translucent, which takes about 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir occasionally to ensure the onions cook evenly and don't burn.
  • After the onions are softened, add 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste and saut it for another minute. The paste imparts a rich aromatic and savoury depth to the dish as it infuses the oil with its strong flavours.
  • Now it's time to add the spices. Add in 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, and 1/2 teaspoon garam masala.
  • Stir all the spices well with the mixture and cook for approximately 2 minutes. It is during this process that the essential oils begin to release from the spices, they will start to combine and give the rich, aromatic base.
  • As it cooks, the oil will start to separate from the masala, meaning that the spices are cooked fully and will now be ready to combine with other ingredients.
  • Add 2 finely chopped tomatoes to the masala and let them cook till the oil starts separating again. Tomatoes break down into a thick, flavorful paste, creating a rich and tangy sauce that coats the paneer. This will take about 4-5 minutes, so stir intermittently so that they do not burn.
  • Once the tomatoes are cooked down, place paneer cubes in the tawa. Mix lightly so that the masala coats the paneer cubes. Now add 1/2 cup of water to make a little gravy.
  • Mix well, and keep it on the flame for about 5 minutes. This will enable the paneer to soak up the spices and relax.
  • After 5 minutes, add 1/2 cup of finely chopped capsicum or bell pepper to tawa along with salt to taste. Capsicum adds a little crunch and a burst of colours; cook for another 5 minutes allowing the capsicum to become soft while retaining its freshness.
  • Finally, garnish the Paneer Tawa Masala with 2 tablespoons of finely chopped coriander leaves for a burst of color and flavour.
  • The dish can be served hot along with roti, naan, or steamed rice. savour the luxurious and aromatic flavours of this simple yet delicious food item.
